The Wild Turkey of North America is one species but has 5 sub-species. The one that we know the best and mostly use for Holiday Pictures and Cartoons, Graphics, Dinner Ware, and anything else is the Eastern Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo silvestris). He was on the dinner table for the Puritans in Massachusetts This is the Turkey we all made in school by copying our fingers and hand to make a present for our parents. (Now do not tell me you never did that! I will not believe you.!) I did it with my kids for my parents. The Eastern Turkey eats Berries and Nuts and Grains. The Males mate with many females leaving them to take care of the chicks. Males gather in Groups for the rest of the year.
