The Archangel Gabriel, standing on a cloud, appears to the Blessed Virgin and asks her to be the Mother of the Messiah.  She willingly replies: "Be it done unto me according to thy word." Cherubs watch from the clouds of Heaven as the Holy Ghost, depicted in the form of a dove, descends on the Virgin Mary.
